Cllr. Gongloe Urges Government to Heavily Invest in Education Sector
By Amb George K. Momo
Monrovia – Renowned Liberian Human Rights lawyer, Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe, has called on the government of Liberia to significantly increase investment in the education sector.
Speaking at program marking the first graduation convocation of Rudolph Kwanue University RKU on Friday, December 12, 2025 Cllr. Gongloe, said, investing hugely in education is crucial for the country’s development adding it will address the nation numerous challenges experienced in the sector.
In his analysis of Liberia’s FY 2026 national budget, Cllr. Gongloe expressed disappointment that the budget does not adequately prioritize education, health, and agriculture. He recommends that at least 30% of the national budget should be allocated to these sectors, citing successful models in other African countries where sustained investment in human capital has driven social progress.
Cllr. Gongloe’s call for increased investment in education is also driven by the need to address the country’s severe infrastructure and human capital deficits. He emphasizes that quality roads, reliable sanitation, and safe schools are essential foundations for long-term growth and development.
This is not the first time Cllr. Gongloe has spoken about the importance of education in Liberia’s development. As a presidential aspirant, he has consistently emphasized the need for massive investment in education, including compulsory and quality free primary and secondary education programs.
The Liberian government has initiated efforts to improve the education sector, including a recent $8.4 million investment to address critical gaps in the education system. The initiative aims to integrate over 6,000 volunteer teachers into the national payroll and improve the overall quality of education.
Cllr. Gongloe’s call for huge investment in education is a timely reminder of the need for sustained commitment to the sector. By prioritizing education, the government can empower the youth, foster innovation, and drive national development.
